Quintessence Singing Workshops
We have fantastic fun singing songs from a huge variety of world traditions. Everything is taught by ear but copies of words and music are provided for reference – we all learn in different ways so this enables everyone to join in and enjoy creating lovely harmonies.
We run day, weekend and week long singing workshops/ holidays. Prices include singing tuition and morning and afternoon teas/coffees on day workshops and all food and accommodation on the longer holidays. All meals – breakfast, a soup lunch and a two course evening meal – are vegetarian and gluten free. Any other food requirements should be mentioned at the time of booking.
Workshops longer than one day include morning yoga sessions and half an hour of chanting (eg Taize and Sanskrit) after the evening singing sessions for anyone so inclined.
Quintessence comprises two people who are passionate about singing, Jude Glendinning and Anne Green. Passionate, not just about the joy of singing, but also about the beneficial effects that singing can have on the body-mind-spirit complex and about the community and friendship building effect of singing together.
The venues for these singing holidays (private hostels or cottages) can be anywhere from the south of England to Orkney. Travel is extra to the price of the holidays. Most include the possibility of travelling together by minibus from our base in Lancaster, UK.
Jude is a graduate of the Royal North College of Music. She teaches singing including private pupils. Jude conducts several choirs that learn and perform many different styles of music. As a solo performer she sings opera, English Song and oratorio..
Jude and Anne sing in the all female a capella group, Five In A Bar, which performs many of their own arrangements of songs of meaning, sung with feeling.
Anne has a long history of choral and small group singing, has performed with opera groups and has organised Quintessence Workshops and Ayurvedic retreats.
