Patrick Ashcroft MA PhD (Cantab); PGDip (GSMD), is a successful professional operatic tenor who has won a number of awards and scholarships and offers lessons for all levels and ages from his home.
As a singer, Patrick has performed principal roles throughout the UK and Ireland, most notably with Scottish Opera, and has performed with many of the major UK companies including the Royal Opera, Covent Garden and Opera North. He has also sung with many of the country’s top orchestras.
Patrick focuses on the individual to a tailor a program specific to the individuals needs and requirements. Moreover the compass and pace of each lesson is dependent on the ability of the pupil so that they are able to progress at the appropriate rate, which should maximise enjoyment of and enthusiasm for a rewarding but difficult art.
Each genre of singing requires a slightly different approach but the basic technique is built on the same foundations. Particular attention is paid to:
Posture and alignment of the body
Emotional engagement with the text and music including the psychology of singing
Musicality and phrasing
Healthy vocal technique in the bel canto tradition (when singing classically).
Patrick is also able to offer help with foreign texts, repertoire choices and to accompany lessons at the piano and to help with musical theatre, choral singing, pop technique.
Patrick has a full up-to-date DBS check and has also had Child Protection training.
