I was an international opera singer for over 10 years before becoming an opera conductor. I currently work for English National Opera, Royal Opera House, and Opera Holland Park, and am ENO Sir Charles Mackerras Fellow 2016.
I hold teaching positions in the vocal departments of Wellington College, and St Benedicts School.
I mentor organ and choral scholars at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge – acting as vocal coach, conducting teacher, and giving master classes.
I teach a solid classical vocal technique, which allows students to sing in a variety of styles, from opera to pop, via music theatre. Vocal health is a fundamental of my teaching. Students will gain an understanding of an holistic vocal physiology – breath, resonance, and freedom of jaw and tongue. I studied with David Pollard, Enid Hartle and Russell Smythe.
I am very experienced in teaching adults and teenagers, having prepared students for Trinity Guildhall and Associated Board exams, conservatoire entry, choral scholarships, recitals, and productions.
VOCAL REPERTOIRE COACHING
I coach students and professionals on repertoire choices, and on the musical, dramatic, and emotional detail of their roles, songs and arias. Emphasis is on character intention informing the musical detail.
I teach privately at my studio in W7.
I can teach locally in W5, W13, W3 (travel/time surcharge).
Lessons in central London will be subject to travel/time and studio fee surcharge
