Laurel is a soprano, conductor and singing teacher based in West London. She graduated in Music from the University of Nottingham in 2012 as first-study singer, and now studies with Sally Burgess from the Royal College of Music.
Laurels teaching is holistically based, including work on breathing, extending vocal range, honing performance skills and exploring new repertoire. She works with experienced singers as well as beginners and teaches a wide variety of ages. She is able to prepare students for Grade exams and auditions, and is also able to teach theory to Grade 8.
Alongside her individual students, Laurel currently conducts two choirs: the non-auditioned BHA Choir, in Waterloo, and the award winning ladies choir, Impromptu, based in Sutton.
Her repertoire is diverse; at University her singing ranged from chamber choirs and a cappella ensembles to lead vocals with the University Jazz Band and principal roles in opera productions, giving her experience in teaching a wide variety of genres from classical to pop, including musical theatre, opera and jazz.
During 2012/2013 Laurel held a choral scholarship at St Martin-in-the-Fields, singing at the many high-profile services, broadcasts and concerts that take place there, giving her a high level performance skills.
She now holds a Choral Scholarship at St John’s Notting Hill, where she sings and conducts a Junior Choir on Sundays. This is where she teaches singing during the week, as well as from her home in North Acton.
