Kevin Smith is an Associate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has been a teacher of singing in the voice faculty there and at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, where as well as teaching first study singers, he worked in the Opera Academy with special reference to stagecraft and role preparation.
Since 2000 he has worked as a freelance teacher of singing and as a choral coach in many countries.
Kevin has a teaching studio in Amsterdam, Malmö and Stockholm, where he is a guest teacher at the Kungliga Operaskolan.
He has also worked as a voice coach with singers from the Estonian National Opera, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre as well as the Radio Choir and Kungliga Operan in Sweden.
In the past few years, he has worked as English language coach to the chorus and soloists in Benjamin Brittens opera Peter Grimes for Norrlands Opera in Umeå, and also for the Kungliga Opera in Stockholm for Sven-David Sandströms Bathsheba and Handel’s Messiah.
He is the artistic director for the Österlen Vokalensemble, who specialise in a capella performances as well as concerts with instrumental ensemble.
Kevin enjoys an international teaching reputation and is frequently asked to give workshops and master-classes for singers, ensembles and choirs throughout Europe. Many of his students are now performing as professional singers in opera houses, choirs and ensembles around the world.
