I am professional vocal tutor and singer, and I teach students of all ages. I use healthy and established singing techniques to help students improve their voice. With the use of graded programmes and song work the lessons are fun and informative, and allow you to see your progress very quickly. Rockschool Vocal Grades can be achieved depending on the student’s aspirations, along with microphone techniques and advise on how to get going on live performances!
I have been singing professionally, both nationally and internationally for 25 years so I can identify with the current entertainment industry, and I am interested in helping students sing all genres of popular music, and know how important it is to be versatile, and as an established and experienced artist, I continue to entertain audiences through many channels, of professional pop function bands, cruises (P&O, Holland America & Fred Olsen), in popular jazz bands, whilst also maintaining a solo career, so I am completely in touch with the music industry in the North East as it stands.
I have studied the voice closely and have developed my own voice so that it is versatile enough to cover all genres of music, and can therefore assist students using established vocal techniques, deal with the current demands of becoming a singer, or maintaining their popularity by expanding on singing styles as an already established artist, as up and coming acts emerge, bringing with it new demands of a singer that wants to perform cover songs. I am also able to look at the performance aspects of singing, as well as general presentation of self, depending on your own goals.
I currently teach privately from my home, where I have PA facilities and a teaching area, and I have also taught in primary and secondary schools where I have achieved 100% success rate with the student’s Rockschool Vocal Grades.
I have a Bachelor Degree (Hons) in Occupational Therapy, and until I decided to teach singing on a full-time basis in December 2011, have been a practising Occupational Therapist for 8 years (Occupational Therapy in mental health), where I have a particular interest in using the occupation of singing as means of staying healthy, or becoming healthy. Singing is an occupational habit that hundreds of thousands of people in Britain alone, enjoy so much. Singing, or being a ‘singer’ is how many people would like to describe themselves as ‘who they are’. Being in the singing world can make a person feel themselves, have a sense of identity, can help express themselves, and help them feel comfortable in their own skins, no matter what the age!
With the use of safe, established and reliable vocal techniques, I am able to assist students develop their singing skills so that they can then go on to peruse a singing career, or simply improve the voice they already have.
