I trained at Trinity College of Music as a baritone, graduating with a First Class Honours Degree in 2004, and also completing the LTCL Teaching Diploma. Since then I have gained experience teaching singers of all levels from complete beginners to professional performers. I maintain a career as a singer and Musical Director alongside my teaching, and consider them both to be equally important.
My teaching style is approachable and supportive, creating an atmosphere where pupils feel comfortable and can give of their best. I tailor my lessons to meet the individual needs of my pupils, aiming to develop them as musicians as well as singers by incorporating music theory and aural skills into my lessons where appropriate. My knowledge of vocal technique is extremely sound and I am able to communicate this to my pupils in ways that are meaningful to them.
I have prepared singers for Associated Board exams up to Grade 8, Musical Theatre exams, GSCE, A-level, auditions and performances. My knowledge of repertoire is comprehensive, encompassing a range of styles. My keyboard and accompanying skills are confident and I enjoy working with pupils to bring pieces to performance level, or simply helping them to find their voices and develop in confidence as a singer.
