   About CHIRANJIB
CHIRANJIB CHAKRABORTY is one of the top ranking Indian classical vocalists in Europe. As a young promising vocalist of Indian classical music, he is able to demonstrate a high degree of creativity and versatility in bringing to life a wide ranging musical repertoire—pulsating ancient Dhrupad music and sublime songs of light classical music as well as today’s fusion styles and classical ragas. His music sparkles with the very rare combination of virtuosity with classical purity, along with a deep sense of aesthetics. From a tender age, Chiranjib has been receiving musical guidance from the acclaimed veteran musician, Pandit Nidan Bandhu Banerjee of Rampur and Gwalior Gharanas. From 1993 onwards, he has been associated with the ITC Sangeet Research Academy as a student under the eminent Indian musician, Pandit Arun Bhaduri. From 1997 to 2001, he remained attached as a teacher with Shrutinandan, a musical institution of Calcutta founded by Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. He has also received guidance and talims from Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. Chiranjib’s style of blending Rampur, Gwalior and Patiala Kasur Gharanas has particularly been appreciated by the music circles of India and abroad. His tonal quality and ability to exercise control over sur and taal has drawn special attention from music lovers. In 1993, Chiranjib was awarded the National Scholarship in Khayal from the Government of India. He also received awards from the West Bengal State Music Academy of India in 1987, 1992 and 1993 respectively for Dhrupad, Dhamar (the two most renowned and ancient forms of Indian classical vocal music) and Khayal. As a vocalist, he has performed in many major music festivals throughout India and abroad. He is currently living in London where he successfully composes and directs music for many musical projects in Europe and India. He also maintains a busy schedule of live tour dates across the globe. He also presently works for Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan as a part time lecturer for the B. Mus. Degree course under the auspices of Trinity College of London. “The most promising vocalist of his generation, gifted with an enviable range of vocal chords and carries intricacies of the rendering ease”- The Times Of India “A melodious voice that seldom falters on any note or in any pitch is the greatest asset of Chiranjib, a pride of Bengal”- The Tribune “ Tremendous vocal range and most complex tans, as well as his innate sense of artistic unity, received thunderous applause”- Indian Express “A remarkable presentation of Bhairabi thumri, after a long time”- The Telegraph
