 Lauren Derwent Lauren (BA Hons) was vocalist and percussionist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra altogether for 5 years. She is experienced in both teaching and as a professional performer/songwriter. She has taught singing at Stage Arts Theatre School, Knights Templar secondary school/specialist music college (Hertfordshire), Debut Performing Arts, Bodens Academy, and private one-to-one tuition. She has performed in venues throughout the UK, in the US and Asia (vocals, piano and percussion). Lauren was classically trained in singing and as a pianist, achieving grade 8 on both instruments. She then studied Jazz singing with Angela Elliot (taught by Bobby McFerrin), and Pop and vocal technique with Stevie Vann Lang (Blue, Sugarbabes, and many more). She is currently offering singing lessons on a one-to-one basis, specialising in Jazz and Pop music, and vocal technique, grade 5 theory lessons, and song writing lessons (she is a published songwriter, signed to Toolroom Publishing, who work with artists such as Fat Boy Slim, Faithless, Lisa Maffia, and the Black-Eyed Peas). Lauren likes to adopt an informal approach to teaching, so the student feels relaxed in the comfort of their own home. She also aims to encourage confidence, and most of all, enjoyment. Lessons at the students home, provided they have a piano or keyboard (even a small basic keyboard is fine) Lauren charges a very reasonable rate of 30.00 GBP per hour and 15.00 GBP per half hour, for local students.
