It is a priveledge to be a student of Frank Merriman school at Bel Canto House Dublin. The message of this school is that everyone has their own unique gift for singing inside them. Discovering this for myself with Franks guideance has made a great difference to my life. My mind is being opened to the fact that singing is about telling a story in a way that is very natural and personal and not about trying to sound a certain way. I discovered the school indirectly due to the comments made by Sinead O'Connor about Franks teaching when she was interviewed on National Television in Ireland. I hope that my comments may also inspire some people to make this discovery for themselves also. Enjoy your singing,

I was fortunate to hear one of Frank Merriman's master classes that he gave at the Manhattan Center in New York City. I have to be honest that I initially didn't see what he could do for me as an R&B singer, and I never heard about "Bel Canto" before. It was a unique experience to learn about it from a teacher who believes that traditional singing is so important and who teaches nothing but "Bel Canto." At first I was skeptical at his approach, using "storytelling," but it made learning so easy for me. While the class was going on I hardly realized that I was learning to pronounce the words, especially the vowels, in the right way and to make the lines so much cleaner and more expressive than I have ever done before. But the greatest experience was to hear his advanced students sing. It was so beautiful. I consider myself a modern singer and that's what I perform but these people made me love Italian opera. And I am better at my own style of singing with what I learned from them.
